As I made my way to Bandai's booth, I pass by the main entrance and saw the hordes of people waiting to get in.
Determined to complete my rounds before the invading horde, I forged on to the huge Bandai booth... and was greeted by this
After admiring the huge Gundam, i took some interest in the Tamashii Nation Exclusives that Bandai had for AFA09. Too bad there wasn't any exclusives specifically made for AFA, these were all leftovers from previous Tamashii shows.
I guess the folks who bought the Naked Tetsujin would be pissed since it was $199.90 then and only $129.90 at AFA09. oh well :PVery nice and shiny Chogokin Saint Seiya BearBrick. However for $200..OUCH
Gundam was slightly better and that had some nice kits on sale. (From what I know, these were snapped up in the first few hrs after opening.) I liked the MG Impulse Gundam and MG Zaku II chrome coating versions. However since i have NO SKILLs building gundam kits, i figured Master Grade kits were not going to be good "beginner" starter kits. I did get the SD World Gundam Set instead. These buggers were Super Deformed and SUPER Shiny... deadly poison for me as I like anything shiny :) When you add in the cuteness of being deformed, HOW could i resist?MG Impulse Gundam .One of the nicer gundams I have seen. The finishing is stunningZaku II. Actually looks like its made from Bronze... NICE..
Right beside these was Son Goku model kit on display. To be released soon if I remember correctly. Personally , I think Goku is much better as a 12" figure than as a model kit.. but that's just me.
There was also some Chogokin from Bandai's Soul of Chogokin line on display. Nothing we haven't see before though. They should have perhaps put a prototype of Daitarn 3 on display....
SDX Gundams
Saint Seiya always looks good displayed together and under a spotlight....
At around this time (10plus..), my time was up and the hordes descended. I literally saw people SPRINTING to whatever they were going when the floodgates was opened. Pandemonium was going to ensue so I quickly took the last of my pics...
A nice big kit
These were completed gundam kits from hobbyist on display
Misc Random shots which I took around the booth as more and more pple descended...
Unazukin... My wife loves these.. i quite a few of them displayed at home :P
The sales booth where you buy all your stuff. Not really super cheap prices though... besides exclusives, nothing worth buying
After this I basically retied my camera and roamed around meeting my friends and checking out the other booths. I wanted to stay to watch the regional cosplay championships (and see ALODIA..) but at around noon, i felt totally drained and so I left.
It was a real treat roaming around the halls unhampered. Hopefully I get the chance again next year.Quite a good AFA IMHO.. Hope next year's is even bigger, Better and MORE EXCLUSIVES!!
Well, thats all folks. Hope you enjoyed yourself. I may post more pics, nicers DLSR taken pics later on. We'll see.
Cheers

Thanks for the detailed coverage, bro. A word of warning about shiny Gundam kits in general. Those kits which we not originally plated, e.g., Impulse, Zaku, will leave cut marks on the kit when you assemble them, which ruin the toy actually. The reason is the runners connect directly to the parts, so sprue marks are inevitable, compared to kits like the hyaku shiki and akatsuki, where the sprues are raised and connected to the underside of the piece.
ReplyDeleteSo it's good that you passed on them. Any word on the price for the 1/35 RX-78? Very tempting that. :)
Thanks for the advice bro. I guess a really skilled gundam modeller maybe able to minimize the damage you mentioned, but for my skills (literally none) i would probably destroy what would be a nice kit :P Hopefully the SD World Gundam set would not be too destroyed by me since its also chrome :)
ReplyDeleteSorry bro. Since I dun normally buy Gundam, no idea on the price for the 1/35 RX-78
Great post thannkyou
