Animation Asia Conference 2009

Hi Folks

Heres a little update to my trip to the inaugural Animation Asia Conference 2009 today. There were some interesting talks from animation houses from Japan. However as some of the talks were in Japanese, i had to rely on the translation devices provided by the event organiser. The translation was quite bad and the translation came in spurts of hurried mumblings....
On the plus side, the highlight of the day (at least for me) , was a talk by Danny Choo.

Managed to take a quick pic with Danny before he started his talk and get his namecard :)

Also noteworthy a short press preview of some of the celebs who was going be at AFA. managed to take some pics of May'n and Danny. Sadly my camera decided to go crazy a little exactly during this time so my pics are pretty bad. See below for some better pics I found :P

Danny Himself

The Lovely May'N

The following pics from Mr Toffee from gameaxis forums

Overall was a good experience. Now looking forward to AFA 09 tomorrow, which I'm sure will be a BLAST!. Stay tuned for more on that.

MaxFactory Figma Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's - Fate Testarossa (School Uniform ver.)

As seen from earlier preview pics, GSC has announced a figma of Fate Testarossa in her school uniform from the popular anime series "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's". I guess a small sigh of relief from Nanoha fans as many were afriad this is going to be an exclusive as Nanoha herself was a game exclusive bundled with the PSP game ;Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A’s Portable -The Battle of Aces” .

This figma comes with 2 facial expressions (gentle smile, closed eyes), a school bag, changeable hair ribbons and the usual multitude of hands. Best accessory though has to be her familiar, Arf, in dog form! Arf is just too cute and despite being a small figure looks well sculpted too.

Fate looks good hand in hand with Nanoha (see last pic) if you managed to get a hold of Figma Nanoha in school uniform. If not, it would look pretty weird to have Fate alone in her uniform.. :)

Kotobukiya Shining Wind - Xecty Ein (Military Uniform) 1/8 PVC Figure

Koto is going to release a 1/8 scaled PVC figure of Xecty Ein from the action role-playing game Shining Wind developed by Nextech and Amusement Vision.

I dunno, something about a beautiful girl in a military outfit always makes them look good... and this figure is no exception. The green cloak with white pattern imprints looks great and the details like the buckles, pleated skirt, boots and belt look fantastic. The sword Xecty carried looks beautiful and well crafted. Overall I must say , I am impressed with this figure.

I am usually wary of Kotobukiya's figures as the pre-release pics always look better then the final product. However this particular one may just give me enough reason to take the risk and pre-order it... We'll see

Heres some pics to tempt your purse strings :)

GSC A Certain Magical Index - Index 1/8 PVC Figure

From the Japanese light novel To Aru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) comes a 1/8 PVC figure from GoodSmile Company.

Dressed in a pure white nun's outfit, Index protrays an image of gentleness and innocence. The figures gold trim and long silver hair goes well with the white to enhance that feeling. Her facial expression is spot on and the kitten she cuddles is also super cute.

I have not watched the anime or read the novel so the story behind this figure is lost to me. However , the figure looks good and is a good break from the usual slew of weapon wielding female figures.

You can get yours HERE from PlayAsia. They ship internationally and offer free shipping to Singapore.

Product name Index (いんでっくす)
Series A Certain Magical Index
Price 7,800 Yen (~SGD$121)

Nendoroid Jiei-tan

GSC has officially announced the the normal version of nendoroid Jiei-tan. This is the Ground Defense version of the 11 year-old Self-Defense Force Official, Jiei-tan.

Lots of accessories for this nendoroid which includes

• Book of constitution bound to her back with chains
• Japanese flag
• 64-type Defense Force rifle
• military-use shovel and bucket

Jiei tan also comes with an extra facial expression for those times that she misplaces her glasses. As mentioned in my previous post, I think the exclusive version looks cuter. However, if you can't get your hands on that one, this is a good alternative.

MaxFactory ToHeart2 - Tamaki Kousaka 1/6 PVC Figure

MaxFactory has decided to go SEXY :) From 'ToHeart2' comes Tamaki Kousaka, in a pose worthy any AV magazine cover.Scheduled for release in April 2010, 'Tama-nee' is sculpted at 1/6 scale, which puts her at around 18cm tall.

I would say this figure protrays "sexy innocence" almost perfectly. Look at her big eyes and charming and you would do anything for her. Look further down at her other pair of even LARGER "eyes" and you would want to do anything TO her...lolz

Anyway, sculpt on this figure seems good and coming from MaxFactory you would expect the usual high quality. I also like the wooden base with white furry carpet, really complements the figure well.

Overeall I would say this is a must get for bishojo fans considering the great sculpt. At 8,800Yen (~SGD$135) for a 1/6 scale figure, she will melt your heart but not burn your pocket.
So wipe off your drool and pre-order her today :)

Product name Tamaki Kousaka (こうさか たまき)

Kaiyodo Mokokiroid Series Lucky Star/Net Idol Meister - Konata

Seems like Kaiyoda is also jumping on the super deformed figures bandwagon and possibly going to start a new line, Mokikiroid. The first of which is going to be a Lucky Star/ Idol Meister crossover having Konata cosplaying in an Idol Meister outfit. This is going to be a PSP game exclusive to be sold at 8190Yen (~SGD$186).

I hope the pics show an early prototype because if you look closely , the quality isn't so good. It seems much less "refined" then the usual quality (i.e. nendo) we are used to. Look closely and you will see revoltech joints beneath her skirt.

Is it me or does it look "a little" like Nendoroids.. Hell even the box looks similar :)

Stay tuned for more info.

Meanwhile, check out the pics.
